Merville Grand MothersTextile Art Exhibit Raised $90,000 for African Grandmothers !For several months in 2008 the Merville Grand Mothers worked with the North Island Quilters for Community Awareness in presenting the Textile Art Exhibit “Who Will Plant the Seeds of Hope?”
The exhibit traveled to Nanaimo, Salt Spring Island, Courtenay, and Campbell River.
The Merville Grand Mothers collected donations at each event for the Stephen Lewis Foundation. Funds were also raised from the sale of the art images on cards and posters.
To date $90,000 is going from this project to African grandmothers raising children orphaned by HIV/AIDS: $15,000 from a book coordinated by Glacier Grannies showing pictures of each art piece, $31,000 from exhibition donations and card sales, and $44,000 from the auction.
